Heavy traffic expected Saturday due to commencement

With more than 11,000 people expected to attend commencement exercises at Elon University on Saturday, May 19, traffic in the area is expected to be heavy during most of the day.

The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. Under the Oaks in front of West Residence Hall on the Elon campus. Traffic will be at its heaviest from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Campus police will have about 30 officers directing traffic, manning intersections and working parking lots. City of Burlington police will assist with traffic on Huffman Mill Rd., Garden Rd., and U.S. 70. Town of Elon police will be working the intersection of Cook Rd. and N.C. 100. A portion of Lebanon Ave., that is adjacent to the campus will also be closed on Saturday.
