Attention Class of 2007: Special NEW Alumni Letter & Survey

Class of 2007,

Greetings from the Elon University Alumni Relations Office. Congratulations on your recent graduation, and welcome to the Elon Alumni Association! I am Lindsay Gross Hege ’04, and I am Elon’s new Assistant Director of Alumni Relations for Young Alumni. I received a B.A. in Human Services at Elon and recently completed my master’s in social work at UNC-Chapel Hill. I am so excited to be back at Elon and look forward to serving young alumni in this new position.

In this position, I will focus on creating events, both on campus and regionally through the alumni chapters, that meet the social, professional, and philanthropic needs of young Elon alums. I will also foster connections between young alumni and the campus community, further strengthening ties between alumni and Elon. I would love to see more young alumni return to campus for Homecoming 2007, October 26-28. I encourage you to attend this year and share your stories and professional advice with current students, as well as reconnect with friends and classmates.

As a 2007 graduate, you were the first class to experience Senior Week and some of the special senior events throughout the year, including Senior Kickoff Picnic last fall. To continue to plan events that meet the needs of seniors, we need your feedback on these activities and ideas on how to improve them for next year’s seniors!

As graduates, you are officially lifetime members of the Elon Alumni Association; unlike other institutions, Elon does not charge alumni for membership. The benefits of the Elon Alumni Association include:

-Lifetime subscription to the award-winning Magazine of Elon
-Invitations to Homecoming & local chapter events
-Membership on E², Elon’s new online social network
-Career assistance through the Elon Career Center and the Alumni Mentoring Network

As a member of the Alumni Association, we encourage you to network with the campus to share your experiences and resources with current students. We also invite you to return for Homecoming to cheer on the Phoenix football team and to participate in Alumni Annual Giving. Perhaps the most important responsibility is keeping the Alumni Office up to date on your current mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address; if we do not have this information, we cannot do our part in keeping you informed and connected!

We are planning a special young alumni event for Homecoming 2007, as well as events for young alums with their local chapters. Several of our chapters will be hosting Welcome to the City events in the early fall to welcome you to your new city of residence. To ensure you receive an invitation, make sure you have contacted our office with your current e-mail and mailing address!

In addition, we will be inviting young alumni back to campus to participate in Young Alumni Leadership Day during the 2007-2008 academic year; this special event will provide young alumni an opportunity to share their successes with the campus community and offer valuable advice to current students. We are also creating a Young Alumni Council, which will help reconnect young alums with Elon and offer suggestions on how the university can better prepare students to make a successful transition from college to professional life. If you are interested in being part of this premier advisory board or presenting at Young Alumni Leadership Day, please contact me directly.

Be sure you have joined E2, Elon’s new online social network, which connects alums, students, parents, faculty and staff through various groups and events. This is a powerful and fun way to connect with other classmates and alums in your area. Make sure you join the “Young Alums of Elon” group, which has special news just for the classes of 1997 to 2007! And be sure to add me as a friend once you join! Click here (https://e2.elon.edu/) to join E2.

I am eager to hear your suggestions on the young alumni activities you’d like to see on campus and in your area. We also look forward to hearing your feedback on senior events, commencement, and how we can better assist current students in their transition from Elon to life after college. Please take a moment to fill out this 5-minute survey to give us feedback on your individual needs. Click here (http://survey.fs.elon.edu/cgi-bin/qwebcorporate.cgi?idx=6PKJZK) to take the survey.

I am also available by phone or e-mail to hear your stories, answer questions, and connect you with other young alums and Elon services. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Long live Elon!

Warmly,

Lindsay Gross Hege ’04, MSW
