A series of articles written by Elon journalism and English major Alyse

& Record Aug. 13 and 20. Knorr tells the stories of six young Alamance

Knorr began laying the groundwork for the long-form, creative non-fiction project in the fall of 2006, finding a faculty mentor  and identifying the concept she wanted to explore. She worked over the course of the spring of 2007 to find research subjects, find a publisher and apply for the university’s support for her research, reporting and writing over the summer months. To focus this effort in the spring, she enrolled in a 2-credit independent study course that was targeted toward special reporting.

The SURE program offers stipends to students who complete significant research projects under the supervision of Elon faculty members. Well-conceived, in-depth projects are accepted from all disciplines. If you are a student interested in pursuing a SURE project in 2008, you can find more information about the process online at http://org.elon.edu/urp/ and by talking with your faculty adviser and/or an Elon faculty member who teaches in your discipline.
