Accounting firms greet students at recruitment fair

Recruiters from national, regional and local accounting firms met Sept. 17 with about 120 upperclassmen who study accounting and finance.
National and regional accounting firms, including the “Big Four,” witnessed a record turnout Sept. 17 for the 6th annual “Meet and Greet” recruiting fair hosted by the Beta Alpha Psi finance and accounting honors organization.

One hundred and twenty upperclassmen, all of whom study accounting or finance, met with recruiters from 19 firms at the Koury Business Center to discuss potential internships next summer and, after that, permanent employment opportunities.

“The event was a huge success,” said Art Cassill, chair of the accounting and finance department. “We began this program six years ago and each year it has grown, both in the number of firms participating and the number of students who find this to be a great way to introduce themselves to prospective employers.”

Allison Ellmers, president of Beta Alpa Psi, said recruiters expressed appreciation for the resume booklets the organization provided them.

“They also remarked that the students were very bright and engaging and showed the skills that they look for in prospective new hires,” Ellmers said.

Beta Alpha Psi is sponsored by associate professor Linda Poulson.
