Pink prevailed Thursday, Oct. 25 atElon University School of Law as students, faculty and staffdonned the color for Passionately Pink for the Cure, an eventto raise money and awareness about breast cancer and researchto help find a cure for the disease.
The event was sponsored by the Women’sLaw Association at Elon, staffed a table in Cemala Commons onthe second floor. The group handed out bookmarks withbreast cancer awareness information and pink ribbons,courtesy of Belk and Estee Lauder at Crabtree Valley Mall inRaleigh. Panera Bread of Greensboro provided cranberrybagels baked in the shape of a ribbon, and students alsobrought an assortment of cake, cookies and cupcakes decoratedwith pink icing. The group also accepted donations, whichwill go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Inseveral classes Thursday, professors granted students”immunity” from questioning if they wore pink.
“This was a fun way for us tosupport women’s issues and raise awareness about breastcancer at the same time,” said 2L student Lauren Reeves,co-president of the Women’s Law Association.”It’s exciting to see so many people wearing pinktoday.” In addition to Thursday’s event, Reeves saidthe association is collecting pink lids from Yoplait yogurtcontainers through December. For every lid collected, theKomen Foundation donates 10 cents to breast cancer research.Lids can be placed in a specially marked pink box at LegalGrounds on the second floor.
October is national Breast CancerAwareness Month. Passionately Pink events can be held on anyday during October by organizations across thecountry.
