Hatcher’s Religion & Media Course Featured on Elderhostel Web site

In a summary of highlighted Lifelong Learning Institute courses from around the nation posted on the Elderhostel Web site, a course taught by Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications, was featured.

As a volunteer instructor, Hatcher taught the course in June 2007 at the Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Entitled Religion, Media, and Popular Culture, this five-week course explored topics such as the rapid spread of megachurches, televangelism, politics and religion, and the ways in which people of various faiths are depicted in both news and entertainment media.

Hatcher teaches a course in Elon University’s School of Communications in Religion and Media each spring semester.
