Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan will visit Elon University School of Law at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 3, as part of the Women’s Law Association’s “Coffee and Conversation” series. Co-sponsored by the Women’s Law Association and Elon Law Democrats, Hagan’s presentation and question-and-answer session will be held in room 105 at the law school. Law school students, faculty and staff are invited to attend; coffee and refreshments will be served.
In 2007, Hagan announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Elizabeth Dole. Hagan has served 5 terms in the N.C. State Senate, co-chairing the budget committee during the last 3 terms. She has been a staunch advocate for education, working to increase teacher pay and commit new investments to the state’s public universities. Hagan has also worked to make government more efficient and eliminate wasteful and abusive spending from the state budget, helping create the legislature’s Program Review effort that ensures government agencies meet performance standards.
Hagan served as Guilford County manager for Gov. Jim Hunt’s 1992 and 1996 gubernatorial campaigns. She has also been active in a variety of civic and community affairs, including the United Way, the National Conference for Community and Justice, church committees and school activities.
