Othonas Xixis, PMP and Manager of Project Management for Sungard Public Sector (right), receives Elon University Executive Education Certificate in Project Leadership from Jim Swanson, PMP and Senior Instructor, Tanden LLC.
Managers from area companies gathered at Elon University to learn about and discuss best practices for establishing and leading a Project Management Office (PMO). The course, presented by the Executive Education department of Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business in partnership with Tanden LLC, drew participants from as far away as Andover, MA and included representatives from Guilford College, Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp), Lorillard Tobacco Company, Nortel, SunGard Public Sector, and UNC – Greensboro.

The PMO or Project Management Office can take many forms; sometimes providing administrative reporting and support services for dispersed project managers throughout the organization and at other times providing centralized expertise and control of projects across an organization. Participants learned about different possible configurations for the PMO and also covered associated topics such as portfolio and risk management, project prioritization and time management, cross-project controls and communication.

Othonas Xixis, PMP and Manager of Project Management for SunGard Public Sector completed the Project Leadership Series requirements for his Elon University Executive Education Certificate in Project Management and was awarded his certificate at the end of the class.  Xixis also serves as VP of Programs for the Piedmont Triad Chapter of PMI.
