More than 90 new members were inducted into the Elon University School of Communications chapter of Lambda Pi Eta at a May 6 ceremony in McKinnon Hall.
Keynote speaker Professor StaciSaltz, winner of the 2007 Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award in the School ofCommunications, delivered an inspiring talk on a communicator’s constant grabfor excellence.
Saltz said she believes excellenceis achieved in three steps: dedication, challenging one’s self and being passionate.
“It’s up to you whether you succeedin this journey,” she said. “Each of you needs to find your own definition ofexcellence. Find something you love, something you are truly passionate about.Through this, you will achieve excellence.”
At the end of the ceremony, the newLPE officers were announced. They include: Megan Prilutski, president;Katherine Berdan, vice president; Sana Advani, secretary; Gregory Walton,treasurer; and, Cole Gorman, scholarship chair.
Senior broadcast and new mediamajor Kristen Kennedy was given the Senior Scholarship Award, which providesher with a $500 scholarship. Kennedy, who was named the Outstanding Senior in Broadcastat the May 1 School of Communications awards ceremony, now works as a seniorreporter at Phoenix14News.
The Elon chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, an organizationaffiliated with the National Communication Association, got its start in 1998.Any School of Communications student is eligible for membership when he or shehas completed at least 60 hours of university credit, with at least 12 of thosehours in the School of Communications. Members must possess no less than a 3.0overall GPA, and a GPA of at least 3.25 in the School of Communications.
