Elon monitors Hurricane Isabel

Members of the Elon community should check E-Net for the latest updates concerning Hurricane Isabel. As of 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, all university activities, including Family Weekend Sept. 19-21, are scheduled to proceed. Details...

Hurricane Isabel is currently expected to make landfall near the North Carolina-Virginia border midday Thursday. With the current trajectory of the hurricane’s path, Elon will be at the western edge of the storm and is not expected to feel its full force. We may experience heavy rain and strong winds.

The campus has a well-developed emergency response plan and is already making preparations for the storm. We will continue to monitor the path of Isabel closely. At this time we anticipate that classes will meet and all other scheduled activities will proceed, including Family Weekend. Check E-net frequently for updates.

In the event the University must cancel classes or other activities, students are advised to remain in their residences and inform others of their whereabouts if they must travel. As a precautionary measure, students will want to have working flashlights. Students living off-campus should have bottled water and nonperishable food available.
