Dozens of police officers and emergency medical crews gathered July 17 at Elon University for a daylong training exercise meant to sharpen law enforcement responses in the event of a campus crisis.
The exercises around the Smith and Carolina residence halls afforded officers an opportunity to hone their skills in situations where a shooter comes onto campus. Ambulance crews also trained for situations where victims must be evacuated from an active crime scene.
Approximately 80 people took part in the training, which required the closure of the parking lot near the Mooney building.
