Editor Justin Catanoso says Elon University School of Law Dean Leary Davis "has the energetic, detail-oriented soul of an entrepreneur," and calls him "one of the legends in legal education" in North Carolina. Davis steps down as dean Aug. 1, but Catanoso notes his continued role in shaping the school's curriculum and focus on leadership.
Catanoso says Elon’s law school is “a vibrant new addition” to Greensboro’s downtown. Several prominent local legal leaders paid tribute to Davis’ role in launching the law school
“Leary is one of the most innovative, imaginative and creative people in the field of legal education,” said former N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Jim Exum.
Attorney Ed Winslow said Davis’ vision for the school has been a major advantage. “It’s not like a start-up,” Winslow said. “To find a mission that is meaningful but doesn’t put you in too narrow a box is a tricky thing. And I think they’ve done it brilliantly.”
