In a new feature, this year’s guide includes a “Green Rating” that measures environmentally friendly practices by colleges. Elon received a 94 score on the 100 point scale. The rating was created by EcoAmerica and The Princeton Review based on green methodologies: transportation: access to transit, bike access, car share; sustainability: locally grown food, green buildings, waste reduction, recycling; majors and concentrations with a green service/green literacy; and system/campus level targets to reduce carbon footprints.
Elon students responding to the survey said the university is “all about teaching you about your role as a global citizen and enabling you to do experiential learning, not only through discussion-based classes but also through opportunities to study abroad, undergrad research, internships, and involvement in a variety of student organizations.”
Students said they like Elon’s size and praised study abroad opportunities, which are termed “phenomenal.”They also praised opportunities for service.
From the guide’s profile of Elon: With about 4,950 undergraduates, Elon is “just the right size. It’s not too small where everyone knows everyone, but small enough to still get the small school attributes.” At the same time, it’s large enough to sustain excellence in a variety of disciplines, including business, communications, a “prestigious butextremely competitive music theater program,” an “excellent TeachingFellows program,” and a premed program that’s bolstered by anundergraduate cadaver lab—one of only five in the United States.
This is Elon’s sixth year in The Princeton Review’s guide, which is among the best selling publications that assist prospective students and parents in making their college choices.
