Students have until Oct. 15 to apply for a new program that offers them the opportunity to discover who they are, where they want to go in life, and how to achieve their goals. "Charting Your Journey" includes a retreat, dinners and a one-credit hour course with a group of 10 classmates led by faculty and peer leaders.
Elon is collaborating with a national leadership development company, New Mountain Ventures, to offer the innovative program. Students will learn to identify their strengths, be alert to opportunities, take measured risks, set goals and think strategically, and practice the art of reflection and renewal.
These skills will help students align their core identity with their professional and personal goals, especially in the context of their remaining years at Elon.
Three groups of 10 students will participate in retreat from Jan. 3-5, 2009, at Laurel Ridge Conference and Retreat Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Cohorts will also meet for weekly meals during Winter Term and enroll in a one-credit Transition Strategies course during the first half of the spring semester.
The groups will schedule a convenient time for the weekly class meetings.
While there is no charge to participate in the program, students are required to submit an application, along with one reference from a faculty or staff member. Applications are due electronically or in hard copy to the Office of the Vice President for Student Life in Alamance 109 by Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m.
Those accepted to participate in the program will be notified by email no later than Oct. 28. To confirm participation, accepted students are required to submit a $50 deposit to ensure their full participation. The deposit will be refunded to students who complete the program.
