Elon University is among 45 colleges and universities from across the United States chosen to form a national coalition called the Bringing Theory to Practice Project (BTtoP), dedicated to the advancement of a liberal education.
Schools in the new Leadership Coalition will receive grants over two years to support their priority of creating and sustaining a campus culture for learning, elevating expectations, and involving more faculty and students in interaction and broadening reward structures.
The Bringing Theory to Practice Project, an independent project in partnership with the Association of American Colleges and Universities, sought applications and plans from interested institutions of all types offering baccalaureate degrees.
The Coalition will hold a President’s Symposium in Washington, D.C., from Nov. 10-11.
Presidents have been called upon to be actively engaged as educators, working toward holding relevant internal conversations about the institution’s commitment to “campus culture for learning,” establishing leadership planning teams that will begin plans to develop that culture, and to put into practice those plans by the 2009 school year.
Lambert joins in the Coalition with presidents from such institutions as Georgetown University, Colorado College, Dickinson College, Sarah Lawrence College, Bryn Mawr College, and Washington and Lee University.
Funding for the project is provided by the S. Engelhard Center, the Charles Engelhard Foundation, the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation and the Lumina Foundation.
