Walker, students present at conference

Hal Walker, associate professor of leisure and sport management, and two students presented a session recently at the International Conference on Sport and Entertainment Business in Columbia, S.C.

Seniors Shannon Campbell and Shelley Smith joined Walker for the session, titled “Internship Success: For Students, By Students.”

The session provided tips for successful student internships, the importance of networking and hints for the internship hunt. Campbell and Smith used their personal experience in recent internships to develop the session. Campbell interned last summer with the River City Rascals, a minor league baseball team in St. Louis, while Smith worked with Crowne Plaza Resorts in Hilton Head, S.C. Both students are leisure and sport management majors.

The conference was hosted by the University of South Carolina Oct. 8-12.
