The Elon in Los Angeles program will hold an informational meeting open to all students at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10 in Studio B of the McEwen Communications building.
Elon University launched the nine-week opportunity for students to intern and study in Los Angeles in June 2008. The initial group consisted of 20 students, who earned six hours of credit (two hours of internship and four hours of a communications elective) while on site in Hollywood. (View the students’ work from Los Angeles by clicking the blog link at the upper right.) Applications for this year’s program will be available Feb. 1.
Opportunities for internships exist within entertainment companies and businesses that support the industry, including casting, distribution of programming and entertainment journalism. We have contacts from more than 700 internships sites in the Los Angeles area. Additionally, students will take a course on the business of Hollywood and interact with professionals as they discover the ins and outs of conceiving stories, pitching scripts, financing films and recruiting talent. The course is designed to have weekly interactions with entertainment professionals in Hollywood.
Students in Los Angeles for the summer of 2008 received internships at places, such as:
- Fremantle
- Inside Edition
- Evolution Entertainment
- The Weinstein Company
- Hollywood Life Magazine
- E! International Dept.
- Screen Gems
- MTVN_VH1
