Lee Bush, an assistant professor of communications, had a column published in the Dec. 21, 2008, edition of the News & Record in Greensboro, N.C. “Americans waiting for straight talk from CEOs” challenges financial executives to take responsibility for the economic crisis facing the United States.
Bush teaches corporate communications skills and strategies having spent 20 years as a public relations agency executive. She also advises Live Oak, Elon’s student strategic communications agency.
From the column: “In interviews and articles, one smoldering question goes unanswered: Who in the financial industry is taking responsibility for this mess? The answer, apparently, is no one. In a recent interview with Charlie Rose, Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit did a fine job explaining how the financial sector got to ‘bailout point’ but fell short of taking responsibility for Citigroup’s contribution. Or, when pressed by Rose, of offering an apology. ‘I can completely understand how people not close to this industry would be furious,’ Pandit stated, but no apology was forthcoming.”
