Pendulum Students, Newspaper Recognized with SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards

Editors at The Pendulum were awarded Region 2 Mark of Excellence Awards by the Society of Professional Journalists for their reporting and photography.

  • Andie Diemer, a journalism major and editor of The Pendulum, was recognized in the General News Reporting category for her story about vandals who destroyed the work of Iraqi journalist and artist Ahmed Faddam, a scholar-in-residence at Elon.
  • Hannah Williams, a journalism major and special projects editor, was recognized in the In-Depth Reporting category for her inside look at the cost of ARAMARK.
  • Angie Lovelace, a journalism major and photographer, was recognized in the Feature Photography category for her photo spread coverging the vigil of deceased student Michael Foreman.
  • Pam Richter, a jouranlism major and sports editor, was recognized in the Online Column Writing category for work she did as an intern at the Greensboro News and Record.
  • The Pendulum was recognized in the Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper category.

The awards will be presented during the Mark of Excellence Luncheon at the upcoming Spring Conference, March 28 in Arlington, Va. The conference will be held at Marymount University’s Ballston Campus Conference Center. First place regional winners will advance to the national round of the competition.
