Consider donating, not trashing, unwanted furniture

Still have a couch and desk that you won't need in two weeks? If you're having no luck on E-net's want ads, instead of visiting the nearest Dumpster, consider a donation to Habitat for Humanity ReStore. A collection truck will be parked at the Elon Community Church until May 25 in coordination with the Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life. Receipts will be offered for gifts to the local nonprofit agency.

Dates: May 13-25
Hours: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Donations of usable furniture, working electronics & appliances, and lamps will be used by Habitat for Humanity in their “ReStore” resale location to provide funds to work with local families in need of decent, affordable housing. Habitat is NOT accepting clothing, shoes, computers or monitors.

Residence Halls/Areas are receiving items that will also be donated to this project. See an Area Office for details. Staff in the Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life will give out receipts for students or parents interested in claiming itemized donations on their tax returns next spring.

Donations assist Habitat while meeting Elon University’s sustainability efforts by keeping acceptable furnishings out of landfills. For more information, or to request help in moving furniture for donations, contact Phil Smith, assistant chaplain and director of religious life at Elon, at 278-7729 or psmith19@elon.edu.
