Second year Elon Law students Carla Rogers and David Stephens spearheaded a multi-week campaign this fall to collect goods for military servicemen and women overseas. The campaign drew support from regional corporations, local high schools and middle schools, and from Elon University's MBA program.
Rogers and Stephens said they wanted to do something to express gratitude for the dedication and service of soldiers overseas.
“We understand that being away from home must be tough especially around the holidays and while these items are no comparison to being home, we hope they bring you some joy,” Rogers and Stephens told members of the military in letters that went out with care packages this week.
In addition to dozens of Elon Law students, faculty and staff who supported the drive, many others contributed goods for the campaign, including individuals from Elon’s MBA program, Alamance Eye Center of Burlington, NC, students and teachers of R. S. Central High School and R-S Middle School in Rutherfordton, NC, and 15 BB&T Branch Bank locations located throughout the Triad of North Carolina.
“We hope these items and letters of thanks find you all in good spirits and doing well,” the letter from Rogers and Stephens says. “Again, it is with the greatest level of appreciation and thanks that we send these items and letters.”
The care packages were shipped by the nonprofit organization Give2TheTroops.
