Communications Student Named National Semifinalist in Hearst Broadcast News Competition

Sophomore broadcast journalism major Samantha Baranowski placed fifth nationally in the Hearst Journalism Awards Broadcast (Radio) Features Competition.

As a result of her top five finish, Baranowski has also qualified as a semifinalist, which means she will be allowed to enter additional materials for a second round of judging. Students from Syracuse, Hofstra, the University of North Carolina and Brigham Young finished first through fourth in the competition.

Baranowski is an anchor on Phoenix14News, Elon’s weekly television news broadcast, and she’ll be completing an internship at “60 Minutes” this summer.
