Elon senior John McGreevy on Jan. 22 shared with the Times-News in Burlington, N.C., his on-the-scene report of recovery efforts in Haiti as the international community assists the Caribbean nation following its devastating earthquake.
McGreevy, an environmental studies major from Pennsylvania who was in a village north of Port-au-Prince when the quake struck, describes the wretched conditions in a story headlined “Elon student survives earthquake, provides relief.”
Televisions only attack your sight and hearing,” he writes. “News cannot portray the screams, the death. It is a death that fills your lungs and seeps into your skin.”
