Sunshine Day 2010 scheduled for March 16 in Greensboro

The state’s celebration of open government is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16 in Greensboro at the newly opened International Civil Rights Center and Museum.

The afternoon will feature the importance of open government in the work of investigative journalism. The City of Greensboro will also showcase its revamped and aggressive response to public records requests. We will also hear a summary of recent legislative and legal issues involving the state’s open government laws. The day ends with a keynote by NPR’s Nina Totenberg.

The Sunshine Day event also marks the final countdown in the North Carolina Open Government Coalition’s efforts to meet a Knight Foundation challenge grant for $250,000. So far, believers in the importance of a vibrant open government center in the state have pledged $201,000. We are $49,000 away from our goal. Please consider a gift to open government and make a pledge when you register for Sunshine Day in North Carolina.
