The lecture by Dean Alton Pollard will honor the legacy of Dr. Smith by continuing the conversations he began on the issues of social justice, racial relations and the church’s role in society. Alton B. Pollard III is dean of the Howard University School of Divinity. Prior to coming to Howard, he served as director of the Program of Black Church Studies at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He also has held faculty appointments at St. Olaf College and Wake Forest University.
