Carl Wilkens, “Building Peace: Lessons from the Rwandan Genocide” – Nov. 3
LaRose Digital Theatre, Koury Business Center, 7:30 p.m.
When the genocide in Rwanda broke out in 1994, Wilkens and his family were in the country working with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International, a humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He chose to remain and direct an orphanage that was secretly housing 400 people who faced certain death by the Hutu militias. Currently director of the nonprofit organization World Outside My Shoes, Wilkens will speak about the courage and resilience he witnessed and the response needed to end such violence.
