From the Fayetteville Observer (7/3/10): Three years ago, Richard Moore came to the State Employees Association of North Carolina bearing public records.
The association was disturbed by a Forbes cover story, “Pensions, Pols, Payola,” which explored then-State Treasurer Moore’s coziness with Wall Street money-handlers. The employees wanted to know more about how the Democratic treasurer was investing for their retirements.
So began a legal battle over the right of citizens to know when their government isn’t leveling with them.
Last month, the state Supreme Court upheld that right and sided with the employees.
