“Car Show” class event raises $1,685 for veterans organization

Members of the “Programming and Event Management” class in the Department of Sport and Event Management organized a “Car Show” event at the Holly Hill Mall in Burlington in November, raising $1,685 for the Walter B. Ellis American Legion Post 63.

A variety of cars competed for top honors, with prize giveaways occurring throughout the evening outside The Main Event on Huffman Mill Road in Burlington.

Gift cards, oil changes, car washes and various automobile related prizes were offered to participants and attendees at this event.

The following individuals and community businesses supported the event with cash and in-kind donations: Wheels’n Bumpers, Chris Rice Motorsports, ACE Speedway Racing, Burlington NC Transmissions, The Cantonis Company, Glen Struck, Constance Ridenour, Gold’s Gym, Mellow Mushroom, Meineke Car Care Center, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Merchants Tire and Auto Center, Neal Duncan – AAMCO Total Car Care, the Premier Sport & Event Society and a $250 anonymous gift.

Class members with Commander Leon Holland, Vice Commander Donald Hackney, Chaplain George M. Phillips, Historian Roger Whaley, Finance Officer Jeff LaGrange and Eugene Huffman.

Veterans of the Legion came to Elon for the check presentation ceremony and extended a plaque to the class to show their appreciation for this effort.
