A report authored by associate professor of psychology Mathew Gendle, Kim Glazer ’08, Liz Olszewski ’09 and University Wellness coordinator Cindy Novak has been published in the spring 2011 issue of the Journal of the North Carolina Academy of Science.
“Relationships between total cholesterol levels and specific alterations in impulsivity and attention” details findings from Gendle’s lab that link increasing levels of blood cholesterol with reduced impulse control in middle-aged adults.
The article concludes that significant behavioral consequences of elevated total cholesterol may exist, particularly in situations that require sustained impulse control.
Olszewski is currently completing the masters in public health degree program at Oregon Health and Science University.
