Dozens of Elon University students are taking part in Alternative Break service trips this month to destinations across the United States, the Caribbean and in France. The programs were organized by the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, the Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life, and the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.
Faculty and staff advisors accompany Alternative Break programs.
University chaplain emeritus Richard McBride and his wife, Wendy, joined students on the Katrina Relief Trip to New Orleans. Since 2005, Elon has sent more than 25 groups to the Gulf Coast for various service opportunities related to storm recovery.

Los Angeles: Working with various agencies related to hunger and homelessness (12 participants)
Baptist Student Union
Belize: Working with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship helping with construction of a church facility, and leading faith development activities with children (9 participants)
Martha and Spencer Love School of Business
Jacksonville, Florida: United Way agencies (local food bank, homeless shelter, after-school program) and site visits to regional businesses, including the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team and the PGA Tour (7 participants)
