Join Women’s and Gender Studies for a screening of the film Women Without Men by Shirin Neshat Monday, April 11th at 6:30pm in McEwen 011. Neshat, already internationally known for her remarkable photography and video art addressing issues of gender, Islam, and Iranian history, created this unique feature film which was an official selection of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and won the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice 2009 film festival. Exploring the lives of four very different women during the 1953 coup d’etat in Iran, the film explores politics, religion, culture, gender, and history in a visually stunning manner. The film will be followed by an opportunity for discussion with WGS faculty as well as faculty from Religious Studies and Art History.
