Ron Klepcyk, director of human resources at Elon University, has been honored by the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources with its 2011 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his work with the association through constituent activities, such as governance or leadership roles, and through professional development contributions in support of the association.
The award comes with $3,000 that will benefit a scholarship fund at Elon. He will be formally recognized during a September ceremony.
Klepcyk’s service to CUPA-HR extends more than 15 years. He has served at the chapter, regional and national levels. He served in several positions on the North Carolina Chapter board of directors, including vice president for information, chair and program chair. He was also heavily involved in the CUPA-HR Southern Region, serving at one time or another in just about every position on the board of directors: director for sponsors, director for membership, director for program support, secretary/treasurer and chair.
Klepcyk also served for three years on the association’s national board of directors and has sat on a number of national-level task forces and committees.
“Being recognized is in many ways a humbling experience,” he said. “I’m appreciative of the recognition, but to be honest, I am more excited about the $3,000 scholarship that will be given to the university. My years of involvement at the state, regional, and national levels has paid off for Elon in a way that I did not expect but for which I am grateful.
Klepcyk said his roles with CUPA-HR would not have been possible without the support of the university administration, notably Gerald Whittington, senior vice president for business, finance and technology.
In recognition of his accomplishments within the CUPA-HR, Klepcyk this year received lifetime membership in the association’s North Carolina Chapter and the Meritorious Service Award for the Southern Region.
CUPA-HR provides leadership to the higher education human resources profession and the higher education community by delivering knowledge, resources and connections that enhance individual and institutional capacity and effectiveness. CUPA-HR membership is institution-based and includes nearly 90 percent of all U.S. doctoral institutions, 70 percent of all master’s institutions, more than 50 percent of all bachelor’s institutions, and almost 500 two-year and specialized institutions. CUPA-HR also serves other organizations that are affiliated with higher education, providing vital resources to more than 13,000 higher education HR professionals at more than 1,700 institutions.
