Representatives of the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications will visit the School of Communications Oct. 9-12.
The School gained initial accreditation six years ago, and ACEJMC has a six-year renewal cycle.
The team will be hosting meetings with faculty, staff and students during itsvisit. The team’s members include:
- Doug Anderson (team chair), dean of the College of Communications at The Pennsylvania State University and vice president of the Accrediting Council
- Peter Bhatia, editor and vice president of The Oregonian in Portland and president of the Accrediting Council
- Barbara Hines, professor at Howard University
- Marie Hardin, associate dean of the College of Communications at The Pennsylvania State University
- Raul Ramirez, executive director of news and public affairs at KQED Public Radio in San Francisco
Here’s a look at the team’s schedule:
Sunday, Oct. 9
- 5 p.m.: Tour of the School of Communications
- 6:30 p.m.: Dinner in Moseley Center
Monday, Oct. 10
- 7:30 a.m.: Breakfast with faculty and staff in Studio B and team members begin to visit classes and meet with faculty
- 9:40 to 10:35 a.m.: Team meets with students from all majors in McEwen 011
- Noon to 1:10 p.m.: Lunch with campus leaders from outside the School
- 1:15 to 2 p.m.: Team meets with Provost Steven House
- 2 p.m. and on: Team visits classes and meets with faculty until dinner
Tuesday, Oct. 11
- 8:45 to 9:40 a.m.: Team meets with students from each major
- Journalism (Print/Online/Broadcast) in Studio A
- Strategic Communications in McEwen 212
- Media Arts & Entertainment in Studio B
- M.A. in Interactive Media in Powell 210
- 9:50 to 10:15 a.m.: Team attends College Coffee
- 10:15 a.m. and on: Team visits classes, meets with faculty and prepares the final recommendation and report through the afternoon and early evening
Wednesday, Oct. 12
- 8 a.m.: Team meets with Communications Dean Paul Parsons to discuss the report
- 9 a.m.: Team meets with Elon University President Leo Lambert to share its findings
