Students arriving on campus today (Aug. 26) should read this note for details about schedules, routes into campus and unloading instructions.
Arriving for Move-In Day:
If you live more than 4 hours from Campus: Check-In begins at 8 a.m.
If you live Less than 4 hours from Campus: Check-In begins at 10 a.m.
We ask that you please check in at your Residence Area where the New Student Orientation Staff and Residence Life Staff will assist you with the move in process and any information you may need.
Please refer to the schedule you are given on Move-In Day to visit the Orientation Hospitatlity Center, talk to local bank representatives, make your Phoenix Card, or go to a Car & Campus Safety Session.
Directions, Parking and Unloading:
Please note that driving directions are different for Move--In Day to help us alleviate traffic on this busy day. We kindly ask that you refrain from using a GPS or other satellite navigation system, as we have designed these alternate directions for a more efficient flow of traffic.
Your cooperation in using the following directions and designated parking areas will help Move-- In Day run smoothly. With over 1,500 new families entering the campus at once, traffic is likely to become congested. Orientation Staff will be available to assist you with parking & unloading. Unloading will begin at 8:00am. We ask that if you live less than four hours away, please arrive to campus no earlier than 10:00am to avoid traffic and long lines.
Carolina, Smith, Danieley Center, Colonnades:
Interstate 85/40 to Exit 141, Huffman Mill Road.
From Southbound 85/40, exit and turn right. From Northbound 85/40, exit and turn left. Proceed on Huffman Mill Road through Church Street. Huffman Mill turns into Shadowbrook Drive. Continue on Shadowbrook Drive through intersections at Edgewood & Saddle Club. Shadowbrook turns into Briarcliff Rd. Take a left at the next light, Front Street. Follow specific directions below:
Carolina & Smith: Continue on Front St. for 1 mile turning left immediately past the Railroad Tracks on Lebanon Ave. Turn right onto Antioch. You will unload at the designated area and have 10 minutes to unload your car with the help of Orientation Staff before moving your car to long--term parking.
Danieley Center Buildings & Colonnades: Continue on Front Street for 1.5 miles turning right on
Haggard Ave. Turn left into the Danieley Center and follow the road. After unloading, please move vehicle to designated parking lot.
For all other areas:
Interstate 85/40 to Exit 140, University Drive. From Southbound 85/40, exit and turn right. From Northbound 85/40, exit and turn left. Follow specific directions below: West Area (Sloan, Virginia, West), Hook, Brannock, Barney & Pavilions: Go straight through the first stop light (Target shopping center will be on left). At second light turn right onto Rural Retreat Rd. At stop sign, turn left onto St. Mark’s Church Rd. (turns into N. Williamson Avenue), continue straight. Immediately after crossing the railroad tracks, turn right on to Lebanon Avenue. The first parking lot on the left will be for the West Area. The second parking lot on the left is for Hook, Brannock, Barney, & Pavilions.
North Campus Residence Halls (Old Moffitt – formerly Moffit, Old Staley – formerly Staley): Proceed straight on University Drive. University Drive will turn into Cook Road. Proceed on Cook Road. At the
stop sign, turn right on Haggard Avenue. From Haggard Avenue, make your first left onto University Drive (Route 100). At the first traffic light, turn right onto S. Williamson Avenue. Take a left on Phoenix Drive. Your first right will place you in the Harper Center parking lot. After unloading, please move vehicle to the back of the Harper Center lot.
Transfers & Commuters: Proceed straight on University Drive. University Drive will turn into Cook Road. Proceed on Cook Road. At the stop sign, turn right on Haggard Avenue. From Haggard Avenue, make your first left onto University Drive (Route 100). At the second light, turn right onto N. O’Kelly Drive. Moseley Center will be on your right. Transfers & Commuters should park in the Moseley Center lot and proceed to check--in at the Orientation Hospitality Center, which will be located inside of Moseley Center. *Please note that directions are subject to change due to construction happening around the university.
