Neal Byrd, a carpenter who worked in the university’s Physical Plant, died Sept. 1 following a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Powerline Church of the Nazarene at 701 Manning Avenue in Elon. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. immediately following the visitation.
Byrd, who worked at Elon through his illness, worked often on setting up the stage for Convocation and Commencement ceremonies. He installed shelving in offices throughout campus and would help hang artwork, as well as adjust or install various fixtures as needed.
“He showed people how to persevere and push on,” said Robert Buchholz, director of the Physical Plant. “He worked hard.”
