Elon University placed third this fall in a national contest that had teams of students competing in marketing case studies and hosting promotional events for NASCAR.
The University of Central Florida took first place in the NASCAR Kinetics Marketing Competition, a contest between 20 universities across the nation vying for a trip to Miami to meet with the heads of NASCAR.
Over the last two months, Elon University students Ryan Vet, Eric Carroll, Alyssa King, Michelle Nadler and Kevin Simon had been taking part in the contest, which culminated Oct. 30 with a race viewing party at ACE Speedway.
The Elon team represented a collaborative effort between the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business and Professor Coleman Rich, and the Department of Sport & Event Management, with Assistant Professor Tony Weaver and Associate Professor Hal Walker leading the SEM students.
In addition to the viewing party, students participated in a case study about Michael Waltrip Racing, Aaron’s, and social media, as well as a case study about how to incorporate Dodge into the NASCAR realm more efficiently.
The top five teams in the competition were:
1.) University of Central Florida
2.) University of Massachusetts
3.) Elon University
4.) East Tennessee State University
5.) Indiana State University
