Fred Melchor presents at UNC Cause Conference

In recognition of Elon University’s successful technology support unit, Fred Melchor, director of Campus Technology Support, received an invitation to present at the UNC Cause Conference.

He is the only representative of a private school invited to the conference.

Organizers of the conference felt that Fred’s knowledge and experience combine well with his peers in the public sector. They invited him to speak as part of a panel that included technology directors from North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Their discussion of “How do you manage and lead your helpdesk: a discussion with technology support leaders” became one of the more popular sessions of the three-day event.

When asked why technology support is so important to him, Fred responded “Technology is simply a tool to make people’s lives easier and their time more productive. The faculty, staff and students of Elon are what makes a collection of buildings a special place. As their Support Director, it is my duty to ensure that technology serves them in their particular missions. In short, I believe in what we are trying to accomplish as a university. Therefore, I am dedicated to fulfilling my small part of our greater effort.”
