Students at Elon Law helped residents of Greensboro obtain nearly $3,000 in health and personal care items.

Each January, first-year Leadership Fellows at Elon Law organize a service project for which all first-year law students, through the Winter Term “Lawyering, Leadership and Professionalism” course, are encouraged to participate.
This year, the Fellows organized a project to help homeless residents of Greensboro obtain approximately $3,000 in health and personal care items. “You never know how much dignity these items can bring to someone in need,” Leadership Fellow David Lambert L’14 said.
Students collected ziplock bags that contained shampoo, lotion, deodorant, soap, and various other items.
Caroline Johnson L’14, also a Leadership Fellow, said, “It was incredible to see 140 students come together to bring in over 2,200 items. It really puts into perspective the amount of good that we can all do for our own local community.”
Another Leadership Fellow, Brenna Ragghianti L’14, emphasized that the “Lawyering, Leadership and Professionalism” course encourages students to make a difference in their community every day.
“Service is an important component of our experience at Elon Law and everyone was amazed at the fantastic results of our hard work,” Ragghianti said.
On January 21, students dropped off the items at the local YWCA while other volunteers prepared the weekly meal the organization provides for the homeless. Debbie Astuto, a volunteer who works tirelessly with the homeless in Greensboro, thanked the students of Elon Law for all of their hard work and for donating such quality items. She indicated that with Elon’s donation of the hygiene packets their efforts in caring for the homeless in the Gate City were significantly strengthened.
