View the Transit of Venus – June 5

Watch the planet Venus pass in front of the sun at Elon on June 5 (weather permitting).

*****

On Tuesday, June 5, the planet Venus will pass directly in front of the Sun. Weather permitting, the Elon University Department of Physics will host a public viewing of this event. From 6-7 p.m., we will be putting special filters on the university’s telescopes and pointing them at the Sun. We will also provide special glasses to allow the public to view the transit with their own eyes.

Visitor parking for the event is available in the lot next to the Moseley Campus Center and Belk Library. Interested observers should arrive at the front desk of the Koury Athletic Center at the entrance nearest the Moseley Campus Center. From there, people will be directed to the rooftop observing platform. Please call 336-278-7827 after 5 p.m. on June 5 to learn if the weather permits us to hold this event.

For more information about viewing the eclipse, contact Tony Crider at 336-278-6268 or acrider@elon.edu. Details about the transit itself and how to view it can be found at following website.
