WCC, Elon University to honor Dr. Jack O. White – June 23

White served as a member of the music department faculty until his retirement in 1989.

Wytheville Community College and Elon University will honor Dr. Jack O. White with a program and reception on Saturday, June 23, from 3-5 p.m. in the Snyder Auditorium of Grayson Hall on the main WCC campus in Wytheville, Va.

The public is invited to attend. The Blew Ridge Brass, led by Linda Bartlett, will perform and a reception will follow the event.

White was the band director at George Wythe High School from 1954-1959. He then became a faculty member and band director at Elon College (now Elon University) before retiring in 1989.

After retiring from Elon, White returned to Wytheville and taught on an adjunct basis at WCC. He was the founding director of the Wytheville Community College Concert Band and later played in the band’s trumpet section.
