Elon Local News to report live on election results

Four student journalists will be on the road in Boston, Chicago, Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., to report on the 2012 races for president and governor.

Student journalists with Elon Local News, the university’s student-produced broadcast news operation, will be teaming up with other student organizations to provide continuous coverage of the presidential election starting at 7 p.m.

Joe Bruno ‘14, Jason Puckett ‘14, Jeff Ackermann ‘14 and Carly Hilyard ‘14 will anchor the show. Students on campus can watch the show on channel 5, and the show will also be available via live-stream at www.elonstudenttv.com/live.

ELN will have reporters live from several cities covering the candidates’ campaigns.

Scarlett Fakhar ’13 will be going live from Boston covering former Massachusetts Gov. Romney’s campaign. Katie Maraghy ’15 will be live from Chicago to cover President Barack Obama’s campaign. Nicole Chadwick ’14 will be live from Raleigh, N.C., covering Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton’s campaign. Addie Haney ’14 will be live from Charlotte, N.C., covering former Mayor Pat McCrory’s campaign.

Additionally, Eric Halperin ‘15 will be reporting live from Elon’s campus. Julie Morse ’13 is the executive producer of the live coverage and will be assisted by associate producers Ryan Greene ’15, Kelly Finneran ’15, Allison D’Amora ’14, Brennan McGovern ’15 and April Sutton ’14.

“It is a very exciting time for the staff of Elon Local News,” Morse said. “We are taking the college angle in a very important election. We are all looking forward to this experience.”

Steve Roth ’13 will be ELN’s social media reporter and will monitor and report on tweets throughout the night. He can be followed on Twitter at @SteveRothELN.

“This show is going to be a great way to show how much of a team we can be,” said Bruno, the news director of ELN. “We are committed to staying on air until our job is done. I am proud of our staff for dedicating so much time and effort into making sure this show is successful.”

ELN will also be teaming up with other student media organizations. All of the other Elon Student Television shows have submitted content that will be aired during the election show.

The broadcast news organization will work with The Pendulum student newspaper throughout the duration of the show. Pendulum staff photographer Al Drago ’15 will be live from the Alamance County Board of Elections in Graham.

International editor Katherine Wise ’13 will be live from the Pendulum Office and will serve as a reporter in the “Fast Track Data Center.” Special Projects Editor Kate Riley ‘14 will produce her segment. Pendulum copy editor Kassondra Kloos ‘13 will be reporting for ELN as well.
