Elon sent 1,170 students abroad in the 2010-2011 academic year, a seven percent increase on the previous year and best among master's-level institutions.
Elon has maintained its position as the nation’s top master’s-level university in the Open Doors 2012 report by the Institute of International Education, the leading indicator of top college international study programs. The latest IIE survey covered the 2010-11 academic year.
Elon was once again the #1 ranked master’s-level university in the total number of students studying abroad, with 1,170 during the year. This number represents a seven percent increase over the 2009-2010 academic year. Elon ranked ahead of James Madison University, Appalachian State University, Villanova University and Arcadia University.
Elon moved up a spot to #2 among master’s-level universities in the number of students who participated in mid-length (typically one semester) study abroad programs, with 456 students. Elon also ranked #4 among master’s level institutions in number of students on short-term programs, with 714 students participating.
In the 2010-2011 academic year, 23 percent of the student body studied abroad. Seventy-two percent of Elon University seniors who graduated in May 2012 had studied abroad at least once during their collegiate studies. In August of this year The Princeton Review also named Elon the #1 university in the U.S. for study abroad. These accolades are a reflection of Elon’s continued commitment to diversity and global engagement.
