Two music theatre alumni star in off-broadway musical

On Dec. 9, 2012, bare the musical opened at the New World Stages in New York City, starring two Elon music theatre alumni, Taylor Trensch '11 and Barrett Wilbert Weed '11.

Since the show’s opening, these performers have received positive critical acclaim.Theatremania.com named Barrett Weed as one of their Top 10 Breakout Stage Performances of the year, saying “A big-belt powerhouse, this relative unknown stole our hearts and left us tripping our musical theater faces off as Nadia…With her deadpan line deliveries and show-stopping pop solos, Weed proved she can bring emotional depth (and adult vocal chops) to a role which would be much easier to play like your typical whiny teenager in an after-school special.” (Theatremania.com, “Best of 2012: The Year’s Top Ten Breakthrough Stage Performances”).

Taylor Trensch began his career by starring as Moritz in the first National Tour of Spring Awakening, and among other things went on to play Boq in Wicked on Broadway last Spring.  In March, he will begin rehearsals for the Broadway run of Matilda, the newest musical import from England.

bare is currently running at New World Stages in New York City.
