Students outside the United Nations buidling in NYC during Winter Term 2013
Students in this course will examine how economic globalization exacerbates the divide between the rich and the poor in contemporary society and engage in a moral critique of the increasing disparities between wealth and poverty in our world.

To that end, we will examine they ways in which people experience aspects of wealth and poverty in our world, by reading relevant philosophical and ethical resources, working with the Poverty Initiative (a grassroots organization working to end poverty in the US); meeting with representatives of UN agencies and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in New York City; and learning about US domestic policy on wealth and poverty and lobbying Congress on these important issues – plus – we’ll be in DC on MLK day!

An information session will be held for interested students at the following time:

  • Oct. 8     12:30-1:00 p.m., in Spence 207

The course fulfills the upper-level GST seminar requirement and requires third or fourth year status.

Interested students should contact Professor Toddie Peters (rpeters@elon.edu) for more information or if they are unable to attend one of the information sessions.  Applications are avaiable by clicking here
