In the past decade, there has been an influx of veterans returning from recent conflicts and attending higher education institutions. This number will continue to grow in the coming years as more and more soldiers return home. The Post- 9/11 GI Bill and the many projects to help veterans receive educational benefits have helped to assure that many of these soldiers will attend higher education institutions.
Student veterans are a unique population of students who are vastly different from traditional students and even have a large diversity amongst themselves. These students require specialized services at colleges and universities. Higher education administrators need to better understand this and help with the variety of transitioning issues that these students encounter. This new handbook gives an overview of these issues and how to help student veterans succeed.
