Elon University senior journalism major Ben Naughton has been chosen as a nominee in the category of Outstanding Special Feature (Collegiate Student) in the 2014 College Sports Media Awards competition.

Naughton was recognized for his piece “How Do You Define a Class? Elon Women’s Tennis,” which he produced for “Elon Phoenix Weekly,” a show that focuses on Elon athletics and airs weekly on Saturday mornings on ESPN2.

Naughton is competing against students from schools such as Ball State University, Brigham Young University, Florida State University, Catholic University, Texas Tech University and the University of Alabama.

Naughton has worked for both “Elon Phoenix Weekly” and “One On One Sports” during his time at Elon. Last summer, he interned with ESPN’s sports debate show “Pardon the Interruption.”

The nominees, that were announced by the Sports Video Group and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, represent work created by college athletic departments, students, professional networks and production companies. Winners will be announced in a ceremony May 28 at the SVG College Sports Summit in Atlanta.
