Elon University’s culinary team is gearing up to defend its title against UNCG in the second Battle of the Chefs Competition, scheduled for 4:45 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28 at Elon’s Harden Residential Restaurant. Details...
The battle will begin at 4:45 p.m. with introductions of the four-person culinary teams, the rules of the battle and the unveiling of the mystery ingredients!
The clock will start ticking away at 5 p.m., leaving the culinary teams one hour to prepare a soup, appetizer, entrée and dessert using a specified ingredient for each.
The dueling chefs will be judged at 6 p.m. by a seven-member panel that includes faculty, staff and students from Elon and UNCG, two local restaurateurs and a neutral ARAMARK regional Representative. The event will be emceed by Elon’s Derek Luther, assistant to the senior associate director of admissions/coordinator of new student orientation. Elon Television Services will tape the event for future broadcast.
“I feel that the battle of the chefs challenge series is an excellent opportunity to showcase the extremely diverse and high level of culinary talent that exists in the arena of higher education,” says Jeff Gazda, resident district manager for Elon Dining Services. “Most people are not aware of this and I truly enjoy seeing these individuals receive the recognition that they have earned and deserve.”
