The Elon alumnus returns to his alma mater to work with students on the project that focuses on spoken word performance using poetry, music and dance.
“As We Journey From Mind to Mouth…”
Friday, Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m. | Saturday, Sept. 27, 7:30 p.m. & 9 p.m.
All performances in Yeager Recital Hall, Center for the Arts
Having also created his own company called WattsWords Productions, specializing in poetic, spoken word art, Daniel J. Watts ’04 is bringing his unique background to this campus production. Along with performing arts students, Watts will create an original piece in the next week that will premiere Friday and Saturday in Yeager Recital Hall.
The spoken word piece, titled “As We Journey From Mind To Mouth …”, will feature Watts and 10 music theatre majors. “Infusing our own original poetry, music and dance, we will shed our skin, tell our stories and hopefully encourage others to do the same,” Watts said.
Since graduating from Elon in 2004, Watts has performed on Broadway and theaters around the nation in shows including The Color Purple, Motown: The Musical, The Little Mermaid, In the Heights, Ghost and After Midnight.
The performances are free and open to the public. No tickets required.
