Students in a fall semester Garden Studio course are leading an event that is free and open to the community from 2:30-5:30 p.m. with fall-themed baked goods, musical entertainment and pumpkin carving for children.
A Garden Studio course led by Associate Professor Michael Strickland hosts its annual Pumpkin Festival on Friday, Oct. 24, from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Elon Community Garden.
The Center for Environmental Studies, the Department of Environmental Studies, Elon Hillel, the Elon Academy, the Watson-Odyssey Scholars Program and the Office of Sustainability are supporting the event – which is free and open to the community – with additional sponsorship from the university’s Fun Fund.
The festival will feature all manner of fall-themed baked goods made by the students, hot apple cider and hot chocolate, and a vegan brunswick stew. All food is free, though the garden is always grateful to receive donations.
The festival will again offer pumpkin carving and painting, face painting, and a photo booth for children. New this year is an information table on composting, and musical entertainment from student singer-songwriters and vocal groups.
The festival also will be a trash free event with composting and recycling bins available. While compostable bowls and cups are available, the class encourages visitors to bring a mug and/or bowl to use for food and drink.
