Miranda Warfield scored a game-high 15 points, and top-seeded Chattanooga forced 29 Elon turnovers Friday to advance to Saturday’s Championship Game with a 67-37 win.
Katie Galloway’s three-pointer with 15:45 remaining in the first half gave UTC the lead for good at 9-8. The Lady Mocs closed out the first half with a 16-7 run over the final 8:57 of the first half and held a 38-22 halftime advantage.
“We shot the ball well in the first half and played a great game defensively,” UTC Head Coach Wes Moore said. “Miranda was very active for us and got to the free throw line. Overall, we are excited to be able to play for the championship again.”
A Nicole Mattison bucket at the 16:19 mark of the second half pushed UTC’s margin over 20, 47-26, and a Tiffany Roberson field goal gave the Lady Mocs a 60-30 cushion with 6:03 to play.
UTC, the three-time defending tournament champions, won their 26th consecutive game, the nation’s longest winning streak.
Courtney Nyborg led the Phoenix (17-12) with 14 points and eight rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting. Elon received just two points off of its bench.
UTC (27-2) shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the first half and owned a distinct advantage at the free throw line, 21-of-36 to 5-for-10.
The Lady Mocs face the winner of the Furman/Western Carolina semifinal in Saturday’s championship game, which begins at 5 p.m. and will be televised live on CSS.
